Madobe releases senate candidate’s list for four seats

GOOBJOOG NEWS/KISMAYO: Jubbaland president Ahmed Madobe has published list of candidates for the first four Senate seats to pave way for elections.
Out of the nine candidates contesting for the four seats which represent clans in the southerly state, two are incumbent Senators.
The State Indirect Elections Team (SIET) had also released a timetable for electoral process but did indicate the voting date.

The first seat will be contested by Abdullahi Islaahil Fartaag (current senator) and Ahmed Mohamed Jama. In the second seat, Halimo Jamah Mohamed and Abdirizaq Mohamed Osman will battle it out.
The third seat will be contested by Ilyas Badal Gaboose, Mohamed Ahmed Sayiid and Sharmake Mohamed Abdi. Current senator Ahmed Hashi told Goobjoog News he was ‘removed from the list by Madobe under unclear circumstances.’
Current senator Iftin Hassan Iiman and Ibrahim Yaquub Ismail will battle out for the fourth seat.
The candidates will be addressing the state Parliaments on July 29 to pitch for election. The State elections Committee did not indicate when voting will take place.
