Minister Nicholson Condemns Attack in Somalia

The Honourable Rob Nicholson, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today issued the following statement:

“Canada condemns in the strongest possible terms the attack at the Central Hotel in downtown Mogadishu, which was claimed by al-Shabaab.

“The targeting of innocent civilians is indefensible. Such acts demonstrate the urgency of combatting terrorism in all its forms. We stand with the Somali people in the face of such reckless acts and remain committed to strengthening regional security.

“On behalf of all Canadians, I express my heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of those killed in this senseless attack and wish a swift and full recovery to the injured.

“Canada stands with the Somali people in their efforts to build a peaceful and prosperous Somalia.”
