Wide scale mobilization campaign for measles treatment has started across Puntland state in Somalia.

Puntland state ministry of health noted the campaign drive will target over 1 million children living in the state who will be vaccinated against the disease.

State minister of health Abdinasir Osman Awke announced the outbreak of the disease where 1,800 cases have been reported so far in the region.

He advised parents to participate in the treatment drive.

“It is not logic for our children to die from measles while we have the vaccine. Lets us vaccinate our children in order to save them” said Minister Awke.

Measles is a highly contagious respiratory infection that’s caused by a virus. It causes a total-body skin rash and flu-like symptoms, including a fever, cough, and runny nose. Though rare in the developed world, health statistics indicate around 20 million cases happen worldwide every year mostly in Africa.
