A military court in Mogadishu has sentenced two men to eight and three years for belonging to the militant group Al-Shabaab.

The first division court ruled that Mohamed Abdi Salaad Nuur and Ga’al Mohamed Ali Mohamed were guilty of belonging to Al-Shabaab.

Nuur who was handed a eight year jail term joined Al-Shabaab in 2015 and was based in Gambole village in Middle Shabelle region, the court heard. The defendant would later travel to Mogadishu where he was received by the second defendant, Mohamed. The two lived together.

The court jailed Mohamed who was a barber in Mogadishu to three years. The court further heard that the two had been receiving instructions from their boss in Lower Shabelle region. The two defendants however denied the charges.

Security operatives arrested Nuur February 13 this year in Abdi Aziz district in Mogadishu while his counterpart was nabbed April 14 in Mogadishu’s Warda Nabada district.
