Mother, 3 children die in mortar explosion in Hamar Jajab district, Mogadishu

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: Details are emerging regarding in yet another attack that took place last night in neighborhoods near Bulusiya school  in the Hamar jajab district of the Banadir region, Mogadishu that resulted in deaths and injuries.

Reports say that assailants, suspected to be Al-Shabaab militants, fired several mortar shells numbering up to five, on residential areas killing and injuring several people, mostly members of the same family.

Four members of the same family; a mother and her three children, have been confirmed dead, while the head of the family is said to have sustained serious injuries after their house was hit by one of the mortars in the Friday night attack.

Local news sources have put the number of injured people at around 20, although the exact number is yet to be verified.

Police are yet to comment on the attack, which occurred almost simultaneously with the Hayat hotel attack, where Al-Shabaab has held the hotel under siege since last night and killed at least 15 people, and injured several others.
