MP accuses Ethiopian troops of barring MPs from travelling to Garbaharey

Storyline:National News

MP Mohamoud Ali Magan has accused the AMISOM troops from Ethiopia of barring him and other MPs from traveling to Garbaharey.

But AMISOM has not commented on the matter.

The town has seen political tension in the recent weeks after some key figures were dislodged from the city by Jubbaland state, they have since returned to the city with loyalist fighters.

Just yesterday reports from the town indicated that residents have clashed with Ethiopian troops who wanted to arrest the former Gedo governor Mohamed Abdi Kalil who returned to the city from Mogadishu.

The MPs said they wanted to travel to the city to help ease the tension, but were refused with landing permission by AMISOM troops there.

On the fallout between Jubbaland State and Gedo politicians, the MP said” it would no longer make sense for Jubbaland to increase the number of regional assembly members to accommodate disgruntled communities as long as Ahmed Mohamed Islam is doing whatever he wishes in the region”.

He vowed not to attend the inauguration ceremony for Jubbaland president to be held in Kismayo on 12th of this month. “To do so amounts to treason” added the MP.

Federal parliament has withdrew confidence from the Jubbaland assembly and recommended to be disbanded on the basis that it was not formed according to constitution and is not representative enough , but Jubbaland refused accept the verdict and instead the assembly went ahead to reelect president Ahmed Mohamed Islam.
