Mudug Scholars Appeal for Emergency Response to IDPs in Galkayo

Storyline:National News

An appeal for emergency response to be extended to the internally displaced persons in Mudug region has been raised by the Islamic scholars in Galkayo town.

They touched on the importance of local help instead of waiting for external aid and how everyone has to give the much they can afford towards their needy brethren.

“Delayed response from the outside world is less important than our self mobilization, to stand up on how we can help our siblings and secure emergency food for them to utilize for breaking the fast” said one of the Islamic scholars in Mudug.

The scholars distributed food parcels they collected from the Somali public in one of the IDP camps in Galkayo town. It was a gesture the people in the camp were really pleased about.

Many of the IDPs located in the outskirts of Galkayo town are made up of displaced families who came from far areas of Mudug region. Most of them are pastoralists and their livestock was decimated by the recent famine.

Currently Somali IDPs are in need of diverse emergency assistance during this holy month of Ramadan.
