Storyline:National News

At least one SNA soldier died and another injured after Al-Shabab fighters engaged in a gun battle with Somali government forces in Qoryooley town, a government official has said.

Shabab fighters reportedly attacked the town from the west and south directions at dawn prompting hours of fighting.

Heavy gunfire was reported as resident near the incident started fleeing to seek bomb shelter in nearby areas.

Qoryooley district commissioner, Mohamed Haji told Goobjoog News that their soldiers resisted fiercely and the town is still under the control of the Government.

“One soldier was killed and another one sustained injuries but the soldiers managed to repulse the fighters” said the commissioner.

Local residents in the town also confirmed the attack and said SNA soldiers are still at their bases in the town.

Al-Shabab fighters did not comment on the attack but Al-Shabab has carried out several deadly attacks on Government institutions, army camps and hotels, latest being on earlier this month when the group’s fighters attacked AMISOM base in Janale locality where the group claimed to have killed more than fifty soldiers.
