Parliament to debate key bills

The federal parliament will today debate key bills aimed at regulating the telecommunications sector and curbing money laundering.

MP Mohamed Omar told Goobjoog News on the phone said today’s session will be dedicated to the two bills which are seen as crucial to the development of the telecommunications sector in Somalia and command considerable share in the country’s overall economy.

“The agenda items this Saturday are the telecommunications bill which has been undergoing some amendments after previous tabling and the first reading of money laundering bill,” said Omar.

Somalia is trying to regulate telecommunications and remittances which are the backbone of the country’s economy.

If passed, government is set to get a big boost in revenue collection as these bills require firms to pay tax.
