PHOTOS: Deni casts vote in Qardho in ongoing district elections

GOOBJOOG NEWS|PUNTLAND: Puntland president Abdullahi Deni cast his vote in Qardho district in the ongoing district council elections which is a first in a kind in Somalia in 50 years.

The exercise kicked off Monday morning with long queues being seen as of 6 am local time. A total of 46, 839 voters registered to vote in Ufwyen, Eyl and Qardho where the pilot vote is taking place.

However, the Transitional Puntland Elections Commission has indicated it issued 37, 578 voters cards. There are 87 seats up for grabs contested by 499 candidates.

So far there has been no incident reported in any of the three districts. Polling stations are expected to conclude this evening.
