PM appoints probe team amid Central Jail weapons smuggling claims

Acting PM Mahdi Guled has appointed a five member probe team to investigate the gun attack in Mogadishu Central jail amid reports weapons had been smuggled into the facility prior to the attack.

Guled announced the team will be investigating the circumstances under which the convicts acquired the weapons even as more questions abound on the whereabouts of one convict who has since gone missing.

Prisons boss General Mahad Abdirahman said two guards were killed after an inmate snatched a gun from one of the officers killing him and one other officer located at the sentinel.
However reports emerging from sources privy to the development said up to ten people among them guards were killed in the Monday afternoon attack. One of the convicts is reported to have escaped and killed two civilians on his way out.
Curiously, hand grenades were reportedly deployed by the convicts in what lends credence to confidential sources that the weapons may have been sneaked into the facility.
Wadajir Party leader Abdirahman Abdishakur sensationally claimed the attack was an operation conducted by the National Intelligence Agency to release some convicts. He did not however support his claims.
