PM Roble engages FMS, CPC leaders amid electoral fall-out

Storyline:National News

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU:Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble last night held a virtual meeting with Federal Member State leaders and some members of the Council of Presidential Candidates to deliberate on the ongoing Lower House elections amid rising grievances.

Though there was no word on the outcome, sources privy to the talks said the meeting discussed ways to address grievances relating to rigging and ways to improve the transparency of the process. The CPC leaders, sources added, called for the dissolution of the Dispute Resolution Committee over what they termed as its lack of independence.

The Committee has come under sharp scrutiny recently following its verdict on a case involving Deputy Prime Minister Mahdi Guled and acting intelligence boss Yasin Farey. In both cases, the Committee cleared the two leaders sparking uproar from a section of clan elders.

Federal Indirect Elections Team (FIET) chairman also addressed the meeting. Irro said in a tweet the meeting discussed ‘ways to implement free, fair and timely elections acceptable to all.’

It was not immediately clear if the CPC held on to their position to pursue an ‘alternative political’ path which they had earlier pushed for. The CPC last week announced it would no longer participate in the elections noting it would form a forum to chart the way forward.
