GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: Staff from the Lower House of the Federal Parliament were this morning evicted from Villa Hargeisa which temporarily hosts the Lower House within Villa Somalia, the chairman of the Committee of the election of the House leadership Abdirizak Mohamed has said.

Mohamed said in a tweet that police commissioner Mohamed Hajar and Villa Somalia head of Security ordered the staff to leave the building amid fears that Villa Somalia was intent on disrupting the election of the speaker and deputies.

“The chief of police and commander of VS (Villa Somalia) security have forced the staff of parliament to vacate Villa Hargaysa, which is the headquarters for the staff of Parliament. I confirmed with the DG and the police commander responsible for the security of parliament,” Mohamed said.

The incident comes barely 12 hours after suspected NISA forces opened fire at a hotel within the airport area where the 16 MPs from Gedo region were being sworn in. Interim speaker Abdisalan Dhabana’d said Police Chief Gen. Mohamed Hajar had earlier kicked them out of the police academy where the swearing was to take place.

Sources have said outgoing President Mohamed Farmaajo is behind the machinations following the major loss he suffered in Gedo after the election of 16 MPs was moved from Gerbaharey to El-Wak handing his rivals- Prime Minister Mohamed Roble and Jubaland president Ahmed Madobe victory.

Election for the Senate leadership is set to kick off at Afisyoni police academy today.
