Police investigate expired food imported by WFP

Somali police said they will launch an investigation into expired food imported by World Food Programme (WFP).

The shipment of food aid was confiscated by Somali security forces at the airport after the plane carrying it landed at Aden Abdulle Airport in Mogadishu on Tuesday.

Speaking to the reporters in Mogadishu, Police officer, Abdullahi Barise said expiry food seized will be examined.

“The food belongs to WFP which remained a long time in Mogadishu warehouses, food includes maize, milk powder, cooking oil, their useful date is expired,” said Gaafow.

The director of Somalia’s Immigration and Naturalisation department, Abdullahi Gafow Mohamud who spoke to SONNA said that the forces are examining the plane, saying it was carrying expired food to Gedo region southwest Somalia.

Somali security forces arrested WPF staff at Mogadishu Airport and investigation into such incident is going ahead according to the police.
