Storyline:National News

Somali president Hassan sheikh Mahmoud has appealed to the public to work with security agencies ahead of IGAD summit scheduled for Mogadishu Tuesday.

The president also called on Mogadishu residents to put up with total lockdown of vital Mogadishu roads which has hindered the movement and led to closure of business premises.

“With Somali forces and AMISOM, Mogadishu security has been tightened, we acknowledge how this step affects ordinary citizen’s daily routines, especially this time when Eid Aladha is approaching but in the same time, we know that we have a difficult enemy and that’s why we took further security measures” said the president.

The president also said that consultative forum meeting is going smoothly and communiqué will be issued but did not specify the time.

The address to the public coincides with the end of the President’s term which lapsed today but he will still stay in office until a new president is sworn in.

Yesterday, Somali political parties’ collision called the president to hand over the power to parliament speaker and leave the office since his term ended.

In the second day, security forces keep major roads closed down. Major roads in the city have been cordoned off by security forces in the city.
