President Farmaajo jets off to Amman for Arab Summit

Somali president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo on Tuesday left Mogadishu for Jordan to participate in the annual Arab League summit which will kick off on Wednesday in Amman.

The summit will be attended by head of Arab States and are expected hold talks on ongoing conflicts in Syria, Libya and Yemen.

During the summit, Somalia President is also expected to highlight the currents situation in his country, especially security issues and drought crisis that the country in an effort to push leaders to assist his government avert looming famine situation.

President Farmaajo and his counterpart Lebanon Michel Aoun will be attending the summit for the first time since taking office.

The drought in Somalia and conflict in Yemen, Syria and Libya will be high on agenda of the 28th Arab Summit, according to the foreign ministry of Jordan Kingdom.

Earlier, Jordan’s minister of state for media affairs told Arab News that the Arab Summit has invited the US, Russia, the EU and the UN’s Syria envoy Staffan de Mistura to attend.
