President Mohamud bids farewell to outgoing UN envoy for Somalia, James Swan

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Tuesday met and bid farewell to the outgoing United Nations Special Representative and UN envoy for Somalia James Swan, following the end of his tenure.

The president commended Swan for strengthening the UN’s partnership with Somalia, especially on the humanitarian, peace, and security fronts, and reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to promoting cooperation with countries across the globe.

The outgoing envoy reiterated the UN’s continued support for the response to drought, countering the Al-Shabaab menace, and achieving national stability.

The 59-year-old American diplomat was appointed in 2019 to replace Nicholas Haysom, having previously served as Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of the Congo from 2013 to 2016, US Special Representative for Somalia from 2011 to 2013, and Ambassador to Djibouti from 2008 to 2011.
