GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has called on government institutions tasked with the constitution review to expedite its conclusion the soonest as possible.

Speaking during a ceremony to mark six months since the cabinet was appointed, President Mohamud said the completion of the review process was critical in addressing development and political challenges in the country as well as ensuring rule of law.

The President added that the process must be done locally and should not be taken outside the country.

“The Constitution of Somalia should not be discussed outside the country. The Constitution is not a project, it is the way to improve our destiny. The government agencies must complete the Provisional Constitution as soon as possible.”

Somali parliament adopted the Provisional Constitution in 2012 but the review process is yet to be completed a decade on.

Earlier on Tuesday, President Mohamud endorsed the appointment of five members who were nominated by the Prime Minister to serve in the Independent Constitution Review Commission. They are:  Burhan Aden Omar (Chairman) Ahmed Mohamed Jama, Mohamed Abdullah Saleh Farhiyo Mumin Ali and Mohamed Hassan Idris.

The President also noted the war against Al-Shabaab will continue until the country is liberated. He also thanked parliament and the cabinet for the passage of several bills in the last four months.

President Mohamud assented to 11 laws on Monday following their passage by both houses of parliament.
