President Mohamud launches Somali Youth Employment Initiative

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Friday launched a youth program in Mogadishu, following a meeting with a section of Somali youth at the Presidential Palace.

Speaking at the launch of the National Youth Development Initiative, President Mohamud said his focus was on creating job opportunities which will help the Somali youth realize their full potential and enable them to contribute to the success of the government’s service delivery.

“Somali youth make up more than 70% of the population. The youth are the foundation of the state, the country’s economy and social development. To achieve full self-sufficiency, I am announcing a platform for Somali youth to share their creativity

The initiative, which will be implemented over the next 4 years through public-private partnership, will help cut the country’s high unemployment levels by a huge margin. 

In his parting shot, the president called on the business community to work with the government to increase employment opportunities for the young people and also challenged the Somali youth to take the lead in the innovation industry in order to find lasting solutions to the major challenges facing the Somali people.
