GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud Monday night signed eight laws passed by parliament as the administration marks seven months in office.

The president assented to the Anti-Terrorism Law, Somali Immigration and Citizenship Law, Immigration Law, Public Data Protection Law, Underground Resources Management Law, Investment and Investor Protection Law and Public Identification and Registration Law.

Both houses of parliament passed the laws in the last three months. The Anti-Terrorism Bill was first tabled in the Lower House in August 2017.

The signing of some of these laws is critical in the president’s war against Al-Shabaab. Notable is the Anti-Terrorism and Public Identification and Registration laws which the government has said empowers it to fight terrorism within the framework of the law.

The President has also signed the Targeted Financial Sanctions Law in recent weeks, which is also critical in targeting illicit financing for terrorist groups.
