Puntland boycotts the committee that President Farmajo appointed for Somaliland talks

Storyline:National News

Puntland administration has yesterday boycotted the committee that President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has appointed for negotiations with Somaliland.

A statement from the Puntland president office said that the appointment did not conform to the provisional constitution of the country.

“As noted in the constitution on Article 53 of section 2, it states that the regional administrations must be involved in discussions that influence them,” adds the statement.

Puntland has already requested to engage in dialogue with Somaliland because it has a close border and region disputes with the Hargeisa administration.

The six-member committee appointed by president Farmajo was previously rejected by Somaliland as they have termed it as political mischief.

The Puntland government’s decision of declining the committee comes as the relationship between the federal government and the Puntland administration stands far since the failed Garowe meeting in May 2019.
