GOOBJOOG NEWS|PUNTLAND: Authorities in Puntland have this morning executed 21 members found guilty of killings in the last 13 years in several parts of the state.

Military judge General Mohamud Abdi Mohamed confirmed the execution of the 21 in three locations within Puntland territory.

In Galkaayo, 18 militants were executed while two others faced the firing squad in Qardho as the other met his death in Garowe.

A higher military court last week upheld the death penalty imposed on the defendants. According to the court, the 21 were responsible for the killings of clan elders, journalists, clerics, government officials and other members of the society within the said period.

Today’s execution involves the largest number of cases in Somalia’s recent history.
