Puntland forces launch operations to bulldoze illegal buildings

Puntland forces has today launched operations to demolish buildings alongside the main roads in Garowe, the administrative capital of the semi-autonomous regional state of Puntland..

Security forces were deployed in the areas where the bulldozers are demolishing several illegal buildings including shops, stalls, minimarkets, butchers and restaurants.

The police said that the operations are intended to fight illegal building that has been increasing the recent months and restore the beauty of the city.

“We told the occupants of the buildings built along the main roads to clear the place and they agreed to quit the places therefore the police assisted them to carry the goods and we are here to serve the public, not to harass them” said Mohamed Abdi, a police officer in the town.

The operations going in Garowe have hindered other business activities in the town.

Some of the business people who spoke to local media outlets said the administration has not given them enough time to vacate from the affected areas.

This comes two after the Committee for restructuring and developing Garowe plan toured different parts of the town including government buildings occupied by ordinary people where they ordered occupants to vacate all government properties and illegal buildings along the main roads.

The committee finally oversaw areas planed to demolish in abid make way for road construction within the city.
