Qatari Ambassador to Somalia tours Waheen Market, pledges support

GOOBJOOG NEWS/HARGEISA: Somaliland Vice President Abdirahman Abdullahi Ismail (Saylici) today received the Qatari Ambassador to Somalia Amb. Hassan Bin Hamza Hashem in Hargeisa, the capital of Somaliland.

The Vice President, accompanied by members of the Somaliland cabinet and Waheen market emergency committee, took the ambassador on a tour of Waheen Market, which was gutted by fire on the 1st of April resulting in the loss of millions of property and livelihoods of the Somaliland business community.

The Qatari envoy to Somalia, accompanied by Fahad Al-Dehemi, Qatar’s International Aid Officer, Joseph Al-Mulla, Qatar’s Humanitarian Aid Researcher, and Ali Abdullah Al-Dabbagh, expressed their sorrow over the loss of livelihoods of thousands of traders whose families solely depended on the market for survival.

Ambassador Hassan Bin Hamza handed over food aid to 750 needy families, and pledged his government’s support in rebuilding the Waheen Market.
