GOOBJOOG NEWS|BAIDOA: Prime Minister Mohamed Roble is today travelling to Baidoa for celebrations to mark the third anniversary of the election of Abdiaisis Lafta Gareen as the President of the South West state but importantly, to shore up support ahead of the opposition next move.

During the visit, the PM is also expected to meet with Federal Member State Presidents to further deliberate on the ongoing elections which have attracted sharp criticisms over widescale irregularities.

The meeting will be the second this week following a virtual one Friday night. It comes in the wake of a move by the opposition to pursue a new political path as the two sides have failed to agree on common ground regarding the elections.

The PM has stood ground against halting the elections as proposed by the Council of Presidential Candidates. Weighed down by the lengthy process, Roble is seen as desiring to conclude the process notwithstanding concerns raised by the opposition and some clans.

LOSING GROUND

On its part, the CPC, which is losing ground to outgoing President Mohamed Farmaajo as far as the election of MPs is keen on pushing for a fairer if not negotiated ground that could enable it to secure some seats in the Federal Parliament.

Meanwhile, the Goobjoog News has learnt that the CPC has already formed the Security and Technical Committees which it said last week will be setting the ground for the upcoming National Conference. The two committees, Goobjoog News is reliably informed, will commence business tomorrow. The CPC said last week the expected conference will deliberate a way forward following the lack of consensus with the PM over the elections.

Roble will therefore likely use the Baidoa meeting to mobilise support from the FMS leaders particularly Puntland’s Abdullahi Deni if he attends to counter the expected CPC move.
