Security Operations in Qoryooley Town

Somali National Army  (SNA) on Monday launched operations to hunt down Al-Shabab fighters in Lower Shabelle region.

Hundreds of heavily armed Somali troops have been deployed in and around Qoryooley town to conducted Security operations amid offensives against Al-Shabaab fighters stepped up in several regions in the country.

SNA officers speaking to media said the operations in Qoryooley town and its environs are meant to annihilate Al-Shabaab fighters from the region.

The officer noted that the forces will conduct door to door inspection during the operations to pursue Al-Shabaab remnants in the town.

“Actually, we are beefing up the security of the town, the forces are hunting down the anti-peace elements as there might be some of their sympathizers living this town,” said the officers.

The security operations curtailed the movement of the people and goods in Qoryooley town.

Al-Shabaab fighters on Sunday attacked SNA checkpoints in Qoryooley town prompting fierce fighting between the sides.

Somali Military did not comment on the casualties of the attack.

In a statement posted on its affiliate media, Al-Shabaab claimed to have killed several Somali soldiers during the dusk attack.

Al-Shabaab which wants to overthrow Somali government has increased its attacks against Somali Military and AU troops in South and central Somalia since last month.
