Senate elections in FMS parliaments fail to kick off

Storyline:National News

GOOBJOOG NEWS/SOMALIA: Elections of new Senators have failed to take place in all Regional Parliaments as it emerged none of the state presidents have submitted the list of the candidates to the electoral committee.
Only Jubbaland and South West state have appointed state MPs who will oversee the elections. The Somaliland caucus is even yet to resolve its internal rifts despite interventions by Prime Minister Mohamed Roble.
Senate speaker Abdi Hashi and deputy prime minister Mahdi Guled have been at loggerheads over the composition of the electoral team which will conduct elections for MPs and Senators representing the breakaway in the Federal Parliament.
Roble met the two on Thursday and a statement from the office of the PM noted the two will resolve their differences ‘soon’.
The elections schedule released by the Federal Indirect Elections Team (FIET) early this month set the Senate Elections for July 25-28. However, without little activity happening in the regions, the exercise will suffer a delay.
