Seven children killed, 11 injured after suspected ordnance bursts in L. Shabelle

GOOBJOOG NEWS|LOWER SHABELLE: Seven children were killed and 11 others injured in Lower Shabelle after a discarded ordnance they were playing with went burst.

Dr. Mohamud Mohamed Jimaale, the director of Shalanbood hospital in Lower Shabelle confirmed the incident to Goobjoog News noting the hospital does not have the capacity to handle the nature of injuries sustained by the children.

“Seven children died on the spot when the ordnance went off while 11 others were injured,” Dr. Jimaale said. Three children who are currently on admission have lost their limbs.”

The incident happened in Golweyn village near Marka town in Lower Shabelle region. There was no immediate comment from authorities but the ordnance is suspected to have been on the ground for a long time.

Several ordnances and remnants of war remain in some parts of Somalia.
