GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: The number of Al-Shabaab militants killed in operations against the terrorist organization since Saturday in the Hiiraan region has been upped by the Somali Army to 75 as of Monday.

Odowa Yusuf Rage, the commander of the Somali Army, has stated that the operations have been carried out with the assistance of local militias and citizens, noting that “there are many captured terrorists. He added that the security forces had also seized a cache of weapons under the group’s possession group ready to be used to cause harm.

Speaking to Somali news agency (SONNA), Gen. Rage praised the military’s efforts in the fight against the terrorist organization, saying, “The operation will still continue as planned.”

He also stated that in the most recent operations, the Somali army had taken control of approximately 30 areas, including the town of Jau, which was seen as strategically significant because it lies between Guriel and El Bur.

A statement issued by the Somali government some hours ago said that more than 200 Al-Shabaab members had been killed near Buloburde district in the region of Hiran during the ongoing counterterrorism operations in the region.
