A senior cleric has urged parliament to approve the newly proposed cabinet two days after lawmakers and House Speaker Osman Jawaari petitioned the PM to review the list.

Somali Clerics Association Sheikh Noor Baruud said the country is battling with and drought and there is need to have a government in place to fully addresses these challenges.

“It is time to save this country and its people as many are dying of hunger and thirst. We need the leaders including the lawmakers to stand for the safety of this nation,” Baruud said.

He warned the MPs not to oppose the new government as the country is facing a national disaster.

“This time round, the country does not need to see political crisis, any further political rift would worsen the situation. I call upon the MPs to endorse the cabinet,” he said.

House Speaker Sunday wrote to PM Khaire to review the list after complaints from MPs that the list did not meet the constitutional threshold and went against the spirit of sharing of cabinet posts along clan lines.

The new cabinet which was formed on 21st this month comprises of 26 ministers, an equal number of deputies and 15 state ministers.
