Somali Federal MP Dahir Hassan Abdi accuses Somali president on promoting civil unrest in Hiran region.

The Federal MP Dahir Hassan Abdi has accused Somali president Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud of ignoring the will of Hiiraan people and using improper methods to break the unity of the elders in the region.

The accusations of the Federal MP came after the deadlock between Hiran elders and Somali president on Middle Shebbele and Hiran Federal state formation  conference eased yesterday.

‘Residents of the region wanted to have their own reconciliation conference before going to any other conference, instead of supporting them, government started to dismantle them and to create animosity between them. If conflict arises in this region, the government is responsible’ the MP said.

Hiran and Middle Shabelle state formation conference collapsed January after disagreements over selection of delegates.

Yesterday after weeks of standoff between Federal government and traditional elders of Hiran region, a number of  elders accept to re-attend the state formation conference in Jowhar while others still held their ground.

Somali president Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud acknowledged the importance  of the elders who are still opposed to the agreement and said his government is  working on to win their consent.
