Somali forces kill 10 Al-Shabaab fighters in southern Somalia,

The Somali army killed at least ten Al-Shabaab fighters and injured several others on Thursday during fighting in Goof-Gaduud area.

Ibrahim Yarow, Somali National Army commander in the area told reporters the army and South West State forces repulsed the militants and recovered weapons during the fight.

“Al-Shabaab militants attacked our base here early Thursday, then heavy fighting broke out and we repelled the terrorists. We killed 10 Al-Shabaab fighters and wounded several others. We lost some soldiers and the situation is calm at the moment,” Yarow said.

He said the soldiers started patrolling the area to flush out Al-Shabaab terrorists following tips off from the public.

Somali troops have been fighting with Al-Shabaab nearly a decade.

Despite losing the control of many in the hand Somali forces back by African Union troop, the group is capable of carrying attacks on military barracks, government and hotels.
