Somali forces kill militants behind mortar shell attacks in Dhusamareb

GOOBJOOG NEWS|DHUSAMAREB: Security officials in Dhusamareb have said they have killed three Al-Shabaab militants who were involved in the mortar shell attacks last night that targeted president Mohamed Farmaajo and senior federal and regional government leaders.

According to the officials who spoke to the media in the outskirts of the town, the militants who fired nine mortar shells on the town Monday night were killed in an operation conducted by the Somali National Army following the attack.

Among those killed is the leader of the group in charge of areas between Elbur and Dhusamareb. The forces also recovered weapons and arrested one of the militants who was injured during the operation.

Nine mortar shells landed on buildings and the airport in the town Monday night injuring four people. Farmaajo, Prime Minister Mohamed Roble and presidents of South West, Galmudug and HirShabelle were in the town at the time of the attack.

The federal and state leaders are meeting for electoral talks starting today in Dhusamareb.
