Somalia National Army (SNA) forces on Sunday morning killed a senior commander of Al-Shabaab group  in a security operation in Tulobarwaqo village in Southern Somalia.

A military source confirmed that Al-Shabaab commander for the region of Tulobarwaqo village Abdullahi Qannas, together with 10 others, was killed following  ground operations against the group’s hideout along the Bulahawo-Bardhere road.

“Al-Shabaab cannot hide and we shall continue to work hard to deny them safe haven until the people have been liberated from Al-Shabaab,” said the source.

The latest incident came after two days hundreds of heavily armed Al-Shabaab fighters attacked KDF military on where the group claimed to have killed over fifty soldiers.

Al-Shabaab spokesman Sheikh Abdulaziz Abu Musab also said they took full control of the camp and killed several soldiers before withdrawing later in the afternoon.

In January last year a Kenyan base at El Adde in Gedo region was attacked and overrun by Al Shabaab fighters who claimed to have killed more than 100 Kenyan soldiers. The Kenyan government refused to give its own toll.
