Somali forces take control of new Al-Shabaab controlled areas in Beletweyne

GOOBJOOG NEWS|HIRAN:  Somali forces, particularly the 27th division led by the authorities in the region, have carried out operations in Beletweyne, the capital of Hiran and recaptured numerous new areas previously under Al-Shabaab control.

State radio has confirmed that the Somali National Army successfully took control of the areas such as Jaburow, Elka bar Wardhabeel and other areas in the West of Beletweyne.

Minister of Defence Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur, alongside the National Army Chief, Gen. Odawa Yusuf are currently on the frontlines in Hiiraan region to oversee Somali National Army’s offensive operations aimed at eliminating Alshabab militants who have caused havoc in the region.

Minister Nur and Gen. Odawa commended  the bravery and the sacrifices of the Somali National Army, urging the forces to continue with the offensive against the group until the area is liberated of Al-Shabaab terrorists.

General Odawa assured residents of the newly-liberated towns that the Somali forces would do anything at their disposal to ensure that the town does not fall back into the hands of the merciless terrorist cell. 

He also urged residents to cooperate with government forces by providing crucial information about the group which will help security forces to respond fast before the group re-establishes itself once again in the region.
