Somali government arrests two Al-Shabab ring leaders in Diinsoor town

Al-Shabaab ring leaders have been arrested in a joint security operation conducted by Somalia and AU peacekeeping mission forces in Diinsoor town, on Tuesday.

Diinsoor district commissioner, Ibrahim Mohamed told reporters that they carried out home to home search to ensure the security in the district.

“Somali National Army with support from AMISOM conducted a joint security operation against Al-Shabaab group here in Diinsoor. We arrested two two ring leaders and recovered weapons during the operation, we believe they were planing to carry out attack,” Mohamed said.

He added “We wanted to ensure total security in Diinsor district ” Anjeh said.

He said the suspects who are being held in custody will be interrogated with a view to getting more information from them that may lead to the arrest of their colleagues still at large in the region.

Government and regional leaders said they are going to take a major operation against Al-Shabaab soon.

The group has engaged the AU peacekeepers and the Somali government in attacks especially in Mogadishu and regions bordering Kenya.

The group has lost key towns in the south and central Somalia in the past three years, but still carries out deadly bomb attacks in the main towns including the capital of Somalia-Mogadishu.
