“We pay tribute to the courage, commitment and sacrifice of AMISOM and the Somali National Army whose combined dedication and efforts has made progress in all its forms possible again in Somalia,” said the minister in a statement.

Al-Shabab attacked AMISOM military base in El-Adde where they claimed to have killed dozens of Kenyan soldiers.

The ministry expressed its deep sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims, as well as to the people and Government of the Republic of Kenya

“We express our deepest condolences to the families, friends and loved ones of those courageous soldiers who paid the ultimate price protecting our innocent civilians and strengthening institutions as well as safeguarding our progress against the evil that is terrorism. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten and nor will it be in vain,” added.

The minister said his government will not be deterred from achieving its ambitions of peace, progress and prosperity for its entire people and the wider region by the cowardly and criminal acts of those who hide behind a bankrupted and fraudulent interpretation of our beautiful Islamic religion.

“Through the continuing concerted and valiant efforts of AMISOM and the Somali National Army, we will ensure the sacrifice of our brothers and sisters will not be in vain. We will defeat Al- Shabab and make Somalia and the entire region safe and prosperous for all our brotherly people” he assured.
