Somali leaders call for ceasefire in Baladweyne

Somali leaders have called for immediate ceasefire from the feuding clans in central Somalia and warned of any further attempts at escalating the situation.

Somali president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said what happened in Baladweyne is unfortunate adding that the town had enjoyed relative peace and developing and that the fighting was going to reverse these gains.

“I am calling for immediate end to this fighting whose only result is to destroy what we have achieved so far. Elders from both sides must take action to intervene and pave way for reconciliation,” said President Hassan.

Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid called out for immediate cease-fire and reconciliation among the warring clans, he urged to seek peaceful settlement for both clans who cohabit together in town.
“It is regrettable to see the occurrence of conflict in the town, and I call out to both warring sides to immediate unconditional cease-fire, and remind them that conflict and unnecessary loss of lives will not resolve anything other than escalate animosity” said Prime Minister Sharmarke.

“Somalia has moved away from the era of decaying clan conflicts, we now seek development, peace and prosperity,” he added.
