Somali leaders condole with family of General Gobale over his death

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud has condoled with the family and friends of  General Mohamed Roble Jimale Gobale who was killed Sunday  when a suicide bomber rammed an explosives-packed car into his vehicle.

President Mohamud said in a statement that General Gobale who was commander of the Somali Army’s third brigade has been fighting for his country till his death.

“On behalf of the Somali Federal Government, I am sending heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of General Mohamed Roble Jimale Gobale and I confirm that his work as a committed patriot will never be forgotten” said the statement.

Al-Shabaab group claimed responsibility for the killing of the general and six of his bodyguards.

The mujaheddin assassinated Mohamed Roble Jimale Gobanle Sunday after a vehicle loaded with explosives detonated next to his convoy, the militia group said in an announcement on Radio Andalus, a broadcaster that backs the insurgents.

Somali prime minister Omar Abdirashid on his part condemned the attack and vowed to continue the country’s fight against terrorism.

The leaders also pledged Somalia’s government will continue fighting terrorism until it completely eliminate AlShabaab.

Gobale played an important role in the fight against Al-Qaeda linked militants in southern Somalia.

His brigade was stationed in the lower Shebelle region where the group has major influence.

Al-Shabaab which has been fighting the Somali government for the past decade, is trying to disrupt elections, which are scheduled to take place later this month and in October.
