Somali parliament to hold vote of confidence on Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: The Somali Parliament on Saturday is expected to hold a vote of confidence on Prime Minister, Hamza Abdi Barre.

Members of Parliament were last night sent text messages informing them of the vote of confidence on the newly appointed Somali Prime Minister.

President Hassan Sheikh is expected to make a pitch for Barre’s approval in a live virtual address after he confirmed upon his return from UAE that he had tested positive for COVID-19.

Hamza, since his appointment by President Mohamud on June 15, has left no stone unturned in his bid to win the confidence of Parliament. He has in the past few days met with the country’s political heavy weights and former presidents, asking them to throw their weight behind him in winning the vote of confidence from the parliament.

The approval vote for the PM-designate was expected to take place on Wednesday but the session was postponed due to the absence of the president who was on an official visit to the UAE.
