Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud Wednesday made a stop over in Djibouti where he held talks with his host, President Ismail Omar Guelleh, an official source has said.
The source said the two leaders discussed about the approval by the Somali Parliament of a new government proposed by the new Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke.
“Guelleh assured his Somali counterpart of his government’s firm determination to help the new governmental team in Somalia to reinforce security, promote national reconciliation and pursue reconstruction of the country,” the source added.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Djibouti hailed Somalia parliament’s approval of the new governmental team proposed by Sharmarke, and wished the new team success in accomplishing the heavy tasks lying before it.
Since 2011, Djibouti has been taking part in the African Union peacekeeping mission in Somalia with a contingent of 1,000 soldiers based in the central town of Baladweyne.
