Somali president holds talks with traditional elders

Somali president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and his delegation held talks with traditional elders, intellectuals and clerics on Tuesday in Baladweyne town.

The meeting was deeply discussed on the state formation process for Hiraan and Middle regions.

President Mohamud told the teams that attended the function that the process needs to be all inclusive if the desired results are to be obtained.

Elders proposed Beledweyne as the host city for the conference as its closes competitor Jowhar was

Currently not in a situation to host such a high profile event

Hiiraan elders oppose Somali government’s recent announcement that Jowhar district will host the state formation conference for Middle Shabelle and Hiiraan region by proposing Beledweyne to be the hosting town.

The president is on mission to defuse the clan tension in the region which a week ago prompted fighting that cost the lives of over thirty people.
