Somali Prime Minister hopeful Galkaayo ceasefire agreement will be enforced

Somali Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid who led negotiation the mediation teams in Galkaayo called on the warring states to observe the provisions of the peace pact sounding optimistic that it will end the conflict.

Yesterday Galmudug and Puntland signed a 4 point peace agreement after extensive mediation efforts by Somali government, regional states as well as regional and international teams.

The points of agreement included unconditional ceasefire, creating buffer zone, facilitation of the return of displaced people and joint committee that undertakes further deliberation to bring lasting peace between to federal states.

Galkaayo has a long history of conflict but the recent clash once more raised concerns about the differences over boundaries between the two states.
