GOOBJOOG NEWS/MOGADISHU: Foreign Affairs Minister Abdisaid Ali has announced that Somali students whose studies were cut short by the ongoing hostilities in Ukraine will have the chance to proceed with their studies in Hungary.

Minister Ali said he had held talks with his Hungarian counterpart Péter Szijjártó on the plight of Somali students, and the Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade assured him that his country would accommodate the Somali students.

“Received reassurances that Somali students whose studies in Ukraine have been disrupted will be offered to continue their studies at Hungarian universities with accommodation provided,” the Somali foreign minister said in a tweet.

Earlier in the week, the Somali foreign ministry directed Somalis trapped in Ukraine to cross to four countries namely: Poland, Moldova, Hungary or Slovakia following assurance of safe passage by the four nations. This is after news went rife that Africans were being refused the right to cross the border to safety.
