Somalia records 44 new COVID 19 cases

The number of COVID-19 cases in Somalia on Monday report hit 480 and 32 death including 15 health workers as 44 more new cases tested positive for the last 24 hours.

According to a report released by UN agencies, the most affected areas is Banadir region with 469 confirmed cases while six cases have been reported in Somaliland one in Galmudug another one in Puntland and three in Jubaland.

The disease has disrupted Somalia economy and livelihoods leading high inflation of markets and movement restrictions causing a slowdown of business activity that hurt daily-wage earners and casual workers.

UN Agencies for Country Preparedness and Response Plan (CPRP) on 23 April requested over $698 million to provide a six-to-nine-month framework for humanitarian and development agencies to adapt their programmes to the changing context as well as scale-up interventions to mitigate the impact of COVID-19.
