Somalia to mark navy day’s 51st anniversary

The Somali Navy celebrates its 51st Anniversary on 10th February 2016 in Somalia’s capital city, Mogadishu.

The ceremony is expected to be presided over by minister of Defense as many other many other commanders will be attending the ceremony.

The function will aimed at celebrating the efforts, roles, successes and achievement of the Somali Navy since inception in 1965 to date.

Although Somalia has become a well-known hub for pirates, the country once boasted a powerful naval force, which today to celebrate its 54 year anniversary at Mogadishu’s Sugunto Lido Beach.

Before the fall of the government in 1991 Somalia had half a dozen small Russian built ships that quickly fell into disrepair.

Somalia’s Navy used to intensify the war against the illegal exploitation of marine resources through surveillance and patrolling of the maritime boundaries.
