#SomaliaElections2021: Farmaajo’s fierce critic, Fartaag wins unopposed

GOOBJOOG NEWS|KISMAYO: Outspoken politician and fierce critic of outgoing president Mohamed Farmaajo, Senator Abdullahi Ismail Fartaag has retained his seat in the just concluded voting exercise in Jubbaland parliament.

Fartaag was declared winner in the second seat after his only opponent Ahmed Mohamed Jama withdrew from the race. Jama becomes the second candidate to pull out from the contest. Sharmake Mohamed Abdi exited the first seat race in the last minute.

Senator-elect Fartaag, a close ally of former president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud in the UPD party, becomes the second senator to be elected in the 2021 elections.

Fartaag and Ilyaas Gaboose who was elected for the first seat are both strong opponents of Farmaajo. Fartaag hails from the Marehan sub-clan alongside Farmaajo.
