#SomaliaElections2021: FGS state minister for Interior Aden Mohamed elected senator

GOOBJOOG NEWS|BAIDOA: South West state minister for Interior Aden Abdinasir Mohamed has been elected the third senator in the ongoing Senate elections in Baidoa.

Senator Hussein Sheikh Mohamud previously occupied this seat in the 2016-2021 period. Senator-elect Mohamed got 80 votes while his opponent got 6 votes. Six votes were spoiled.

Mohamed is from the Hadamo sub-clan of the Mirifle clan. So far, three Senators from the Mirifle clan have been elected. Mohamed was born in Mogadishu and later went to school in Baidoa before proceeding to Golis University in Hargeisa.

In 2015, he became chairman of the team selecting the first South West state parliament. Two years later in 2017, he was appointed member of the Federal Indirect Elections Implementation Team (FIEIT) and subsequently headed back to Baidoa in 2019 where he was appointed the head of protocol in the presidency.

In 2020, he was tapped to become vice chairman of the National Independent Elections Commission NIEC) before rejoining the Lafta Gareen government as state minister for interior.
