GOOBJOOG NEWS/MOGADISHU: Fawzia Haji Adam who served as Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister between 2012 and 2014 has launched her bid for president in the October 10 elections.
She becomes the first female candidate to contest in the 2021 Presidential elections. She will vie on National Development Party (NDP).
Running on anticorruption and investments in entrepreneurship, Adam said Somalia was endowed with a resources and entrepreneurial spirit but lacked proper leadership to prosper.
“Our people are known for their dynamism, resilience and fruitful thinking when it comes to business. If they are encouraged, the country will surely get rapid development and investment,” she said.
She added there was need for a concerted effort to fight corruption to enable the country grow. The former Deputy Premier also underscored the need for justice as part of the reconciliation process.
Speaking during the launch, Somali Women Association chairperson Battulo Gaballe pitched for Fawzia’s candidature noting she was the most fit for the job “Fawzia belongs to the largest clan in Somalia, the clan that does not sleep at night, the clan that does not sleep during the day, the clan that wants to take care of those who are suffering, that clan is Somali women and is where Somalia live,” Gaballe said.
Over 40 individuals among them former presidents have expressed interest to view for president in the October 10 polls.
