Somalia’s Lower House pick its speaker on Wednesday

The new lawmakers of the Somalia’s parliament will elect new speaker on Wednesday in Mogadishu after the candidates concluded their campaign speeches on Monday.

According to the chairperson of the committee assign to organised the election, Abdirahman Duaale Bayle, the lawmakers are due to elect the speaker  and his deputies in the coming two days.

“We are to start the process for the election of speaker tomorrow,” said Bayle.

Bayle said the process of the parliament leadership elections is in its final state.

“Most of  us are satisfied with the process and the preparation of the upcoming parliament leadership election, we have not seen any challenge so far ,” affirmed Bayle.

House Speaker election will now take place on 11th of January (tomorrow) while one of the first and second deputy speaker of the House will be held from Oct. 12th of January  (Thursday) for the Lower house, according to House leadership election commission.

After the election of the parliamentary leadership, the lawmakers will elect the country’s president on a date to be set later.

Over twenty candidates are running to become Somalia’s president who will then choose a prime minister.

The incumbent Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud is among dozens of candidates vying for the post of president, who will be elected by new lawmakers.
